I would like to thank Calypso, their experts, and staff for the pioneering role they have played by putting the digital control of the lasers of the LightJet in the photographers' hands. First they developed the needed printer profiles, and then by making those profiles available on the web, their remote printer became a viable alternative to a personal darkroom. Once I found them, I immediately began to tackle those difficult transparencies that had continued to frustrate. Beyond the selective control of not only color and tone, but also saturation and more, even to compensate for the limitations of film, was an opportunity for a new visualization in the making of a fine color photographic print. Small Photoshop tweaks could bring a presence of light to the surface of a lake and simultaneously enhance the distance to the far shore. The potential of each individual image rewards ever more exploration with the computer peering deeply into that intricate mesh between film and reality. Their devotion to that potential in this still evolving technology continues, always advancing and offering more to the photographer. I haven't worked with anyone who shows a better appreciation and understanding of how important the work is to us, just what it all means. With Calypso as my printing partner, I'm glad to leave the chemically pungent air of the darkroom behind to come out into the (subdued) light, all the while preserving the pureness of a true photographic print. With the same consistency and attention to detail, I also use Calypso for film processing of all my projects. Quality is the one thing I just don't worry about. I recommend them highly, and often.
