Overview:
This workshop is designed for anyone who brings a camera along on a vacation and wants to learn some of the techniques professional travel photographers use to create images with impact and to bring back memorable pictures from their journey. You won't become a professional travel photographer by completing this course, but you will notice a significant improvement in the images you choose to share with others.
Digital photography has brought renewed excitement and challenges for travelers: new options, new terminology, and new techniques for photo sharing. Have you experienced being on a trip and returning with images that don’t meet your expectations? If so, this course will give you the tools you need to make dramatic improvements in the quality of the images you bring home.
Curriculum & Format:
On Friday night we’ll begin our introduction to travel photography by viewing a PowerPoint presentation that will demonstrate design elements for photography and enhance your understanding and use of light. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to work with their cameras as we discuss features unique to digital cameras.
On Saturday morning, we’ll continue our discussion of light, introduce a couple of camera options that are specific to digital photography, and discover how to plan for a personalized photographic story before leaving home. During individual work sessions, each workshop participant will become familiar with the options we discuss in the classroom.
On Saturday afternoon the class will meet at a Santa Cruz location to create images for their photographic story about the area. The group will reconvene on Sunday morning to share their story images and learn how to improve and solidify their photo story. The workshop will end at noon on Sunday.
