Overview:
You know the world has gone digital, and that digital photography is here to stay. What isn't so clear is how to get started. This workshop is designed for beginners who need basic information in order to begin exploring digital photography. The class provides the information needed to use the basic features of your camera, learn concepts that will help you understand your camera manual, choose which digital tools might be best for you, and includes a simple demonstration of the magic of Photoshop®. When you leave you will have a basic understanding of the all the components of digital photography and how they work together.
Curriculum & Format:
Beginning with basic digital camera features and terms, we’ll relate them to the features you might already know in traditional film cameras. We will also explore the special features that can help you do more with your digital camera. You will learn about memory cards, file types, and sizes. We'll discuss storing your digital photographs on the road and at home. Then we'll look at options, including emailing and printing images, available when you decide to share your new images with family and friends.
We will spend a little time in the field so that you can have a hands-on experience with your digital camera in order to use the skills we discuss in class. This is the time to clear away issues with your particular camera during individual discussions as you work with your camera. However, if you don’t have a digital camera yet, or are considering buying a new one, this class will clear away all the confusing advertising hype, so you can make an informed decision about which camera is right for you before you buy it.
As we enter the second day of workshop, we’ll review topics from the first day and answer questions that might have come up as you traveled home. We’ll take a look at the ends of the digital photography process, including scanning and image storage. Then we end the weekend with an introduction to basic image-editing concepts within the camera and typical software features. We will visit the digital darkroom to see where the real magic of digital photography happens. Photoshop, the image-editing software most photographers use, will be demonstrated briefly so you can discover the possibilities of utilizing a digital darkroom in the future. By the time you leave, you'll be talking about digital photography well enough to understand your local photo store technician, your camera manual, or that article you've been planning to re-read in your favorite magazine.
