This is a one-day class filled with useful and effective techniques for fine-tuning images.  Students will work on image files supplied by Charlie to perform a variety of enhancements and corrections.

• Modifying colors without making selections
  
  
• Effective Color Range selections Making easy selections for tonal and color enhancements

• Adjusting targeted tonalities without fancy selections
  
  
• When to use a Soft Light layer for dodging and burning
  
  
• Special techniques for working with saturated colors
  
  
• Bringing back shadow detail
  
  
• Bringing back highlight detail
  
  
• Increasing Local Contrast
  
  
• Soft-Proofing and Rescuing out-of-gamut colors
  

Students will get to perform all these adjustments and more. An abbreviated version of these exercises is presented in the 3 day class, "Digital Printing for the Fine Art Photographer"  that Charlie presents with Bill Atkinson at Calypso.  Time will also be allowed for repeating some of the exercises---we want to encourage mastery!  A handout will be provided outlining the steps involved.


Going beyond the techniques presented here, Charlie will discuss why and when different corrections are needed.  He will also show several of his master files and corresponding prints.  This class will give you the tools to go beyond your transparency, negative, or camera file---and imagine all the possibilities within your image.  Tools that will then enable you to make your images stronger and more compelling.
